Calicut and Beypore
Calicut was for centuries one of the great ports of this coast, the city of the Zamorin, where Chinese fleets came to trade and where Vasco da Gama arrived in 1498.
It is also, by common agreement, one of the best places in Kerala to eat. Come hungry, and ask anybody.

- Kozhikode airport is about forty minutes from the city. Wayanad is about two and a half hours up the ghat road.

Kappad
The beach where Vasco da Gama landed in 1498, marked today by a small stone that understates what followed.

Beypore
At the mouth of the river, boatbuilders still make the uru, a large wooden dhow, by eye and by hand. Watching a hull take shape without a drawing is the best hour in the district.
